Name: Varis
Age: 29

Other Characters: -
Interests: I'd love to explore where Velanna's head is ten years after everything central to her, and reintroducing her from where she disappeared into the Deep Roads, interacting with people she knew as well as all the baby Dalish... She's a very reactiony character so all this fade rift stuff will just have her grumpy all the time. Also considering things with the Wardens, as well as things with the Dalish... It could be very interesting to play where Velanna will end up with her alliances.

History
Velanna's wiki page here
I'm operating under the assumption that Velanna "disappears" in the Deep Roads in 9:39 Dragon, so about two years ago (she wasn't down there the whole time obviously, she would have died). She's ultimately (and obviously) unsuccessful in locating Seranni, (potentially she does catch up to the Architect and he tells her to gtfo again) and eventually surfaces again, with the help of some members of the Legion of the Dead. She strikes out on her own for a while, helping those who can't help themselves instead of regrouping with the Wardens. She'll eventually hear of Skyhold and make her way there to offer her assistance in the heart of the problem, as it were.
Personality
Velanna is a complex woman with many layers. Comparing her to an onion might be cliché, but it's accurate, in that she can make grown men cry. She's acerbic and rude, generally in a bad mood, and quick to anger. She doesn't typically waste her time with niceties, and will say exactly what is on her mind, 9 times out of 10.
This, of course, is covering up all her deeper insecurities. She pushes people away by being cruel, because she grew up being mocked and teased for being a little odd. She found solace in her studies rather than in people, and this is something she still tries to overcome as an adult.
Her years with the Wardens have tempered her, and made her a little less unintentionally cruel, but she's still standoffish and likely to speak her mind, and more than a little awkward. Social situations continue to baffle her, and she doesn't ever quite know what to do with her feelings. Even her rage tends to come out disjointed and in fiery bursts.
There's also some genuine conflict in her actions. While she was exiled from her clan, and the disjointed one she formed from those who fractured with her was slaughtered, she still feels a deep connection to her Dalish heritage, and strives to protect and nurture that part of her. At the same time, she has spent years with humans, and has been working to atone for her mistakes that caused her to kill several innocent human caravans. She tries to be kind before she's cruel, and has saved lives, but it doesn't always work out the way she'd like it to, and she tends to fall back into the bitterness that she knows best.
She's happiest when she's speaking of her culture, or in candid times when she isn't being judged for misunderstanding something, or mocked for things she enjoys. She likes practical things, and is surprisingly sentimental for someone who comes off with such a hard outer shell. Above all things if you manage to crack that shell and worm your way into her heart, she will likely hold you dear all her days.
Strengths & Weaknesses
Velanna's strengths lie in her magical talents, primarily. She is an apostate, but as the former First of her clan she is well-trained and has a diverse knowledge of not only primal and earth magics, but entropy and spirit magics. Most of her spells are offensive or hexes, but she does know how to heal, as well. She's also an accomplished herbalist.
Her weaknesses generally surround social activities and talking to people. Seriously she's just no good at it. Give her something to murder, absolutely she can go to town. But a party? What is this madness.
She's also very small, stature-wise. She's an elf, so she's petite already, but also not heavily armored as a mage. She's more breakable than she'd like to appear.
Inventory
- Grey Warden mage robes
- her staff, "Heart of the Forest"
- Halla horn pendant
- Keeper's Charm ring
- Small pack with rations and her other robes for when she doesn't want to look like a Warden.
Motivation
She sees a giant hole in the sky and knows that is Bad Shit, and since the Wardens don't seem to be doing fuckall she's going to go where people are going. Regardless of any whispering she hears in her head. She spent several months underground searching for her sister, she can block out the crazy.
